So, what is counselling?Counselling is an umbrella term that covers a range of talking therapies. It is delivered as a short or long term process to help a person bring about effective change or enhance their well-being.
Counselling involves talking through issues or experiences in order to identify the cause and patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that may be creating difficulties. As a counsellor I will encourage you to talk about what is bothering you in order to uncover any root causes and identify your specific ways of thinking. I may also explore ways to either help you reconcile your issues or help you to find ways of coping. Counselling is a weekly fifty-minute session, which offers you the opportunity to work towards a greater self-awareness and understanding of what is troubling you. Developing a deeper understanding can lead to new ways of coping with feelings and situations. It can enable you to move from feeling trapped or overwhelmed by circumstances, towards seeing a clearer picture and empowering you to approach life in a fresh and more resourceful way. Talking things through and hearing yourself express your thoughts and feelings, often for the first time, is a process which will help you to move towards a place of more insight and self-awareness allowing for greater control and happiness in your life. |
