Hello & a warm welcome

My name is Anita, I'm a qualified counsellor, based in Wall Heath, Kingswinford.
Here, at InReach Counselling & Wellbeing,
I  provide a safe, confidential space, offering attention & empathic listening, in helping you to explore how you feel, to gain a deeper understanding of yourself & how you experience your life.

People seek help for a variety of reasons, maybe a long-term problem that doesn’t go away, or an immediate feeling of distress or confusion. We may notice that we are not interacting so well with people around us, or that we are repeating patterns of behaviour that are no longer helpful to us.

Counselling offers a trusted space, where you can feel safe enough to share your inner thoughts & feelings. I naturally & warmly focus on your unique experience, enabling you to look at your life from differing perspectives,  helping you to gain control of your life.

Whilst often sought out in times of difficulty, counselling can be an enjoyable experience and have extremely positive outcomes. For many people it is the first time that they have experienced being completely listened to, and this in itself can be hugely therapeutic.

About me

I’m a qualified counsellor and registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).
I follow their ethical guidelines and receive regular supervision, along with attending ongoing training and CPD, to ensure I offer a safe, effective, professional therapy service.
I’m passionate about empowering others, with a central focus on self-care and well-being. Having attended therapy myself, I know the absolute importance of looking after our mental health and developing emotional resilience.

At InReach Counselling I base my approach on what is termed ‘person-centered therapy’, a humanistic approach to counselling. This allows you to freely express your emotions and feelings, without feeling any judgement or expectation from me. I will seek to understand your unique experience, from your point of view. An experience that can enable you to re-connect with who you really are, in feeling greater self-worth & purpose.

My core training is integrative, which allows me the freedom & flexibility to combine a range of theoretical approaches & ways of working, to assist clients with whatever it is they’re struggling with. In working from a person-centred core, I can remain open and responsive to the individual needs of each client.

I am able to integrate a range of techniques & theories tailored to meet your needs, including;
Cognitive behavioural therapy, (CBT) develops insight into faulty thinking processes, which affect the way we feel & behave, enabling you to challenge negative thoughts. Another perspective considers, psychodynamic concepts, in looking at memories, past relationships, ego-defense mechanisms & the unconscious processes we use.
I passionately believe in each person's unique individuality, so it’s important for me as a therapist, to be able to work in ways that acknowledges and nurtures difference & diversity, in ultimately respecting the very essence of who we really are.

As well as my private practice, I also work in a speech-language therapy department in the NHS. Working within this specialised team has given me great insight & knowledge into the issues that children and young people face, in how communication skills impact on mental health and wellbeing. I have also worked for Spurgeons, working alongside young people in Prison, helping to prepare them on their journey for release. My experiences working with young and old from all demographics and diverse backgrounds has helped me shape how I provide my therapeutic services and support those who are in need.

So, what is counselling?

Counselling is an umbrella term that covers a range of talking therapies. It is delivered as a short or long term process to help a person bring about effective change or enhance their well-being.

Counselling involves talking through issues or experiences in order to identify the cause and patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that may be creating difficulties. As a counsellor I will encourage you to talk about what is bothering you in order to uncover any root causes and identify your specific ways of thinking. I may also explore ways to either help you reconcile your issues or help you to find ways of coping.

Counselling is a weekly fifty-minute session, which offers you the opportunity to work towards a greater self-awareness and understanding of what is troubling you. Developing a deeper understanding can lead to new ways of coping with feelings and situations. It can enable you to move from feeling trapped or overwhelmed by circumstances, towards seeing a clearer picture and empowering you to approach life in a fresh and more resourceful way.

Talking things through and hearing yourself express your thoughts and feelings, often for the first time, is a process which will help you to move towards a place of more insight and self-awareness allowing for greater control and happiness in your life.
